Dr. Albert Schweitzer said it beautifully: “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.”
Scientific research shows that success is not the key to happiness. It’s actually the other way around. Happiness often brings about success, and there are many studies that verify this, and one example is the University of Illinois. Their numerous studies showed that happy individuals are successful across many areas of life. Happiness improves your health, happiness improves your relationships, at work people enjoy working with you. Customers want to do and keep doing business with people who have a sunny disposition.
CONCEPT
Happiness is a choice and we can make that choice every day. Happiness exists right now and it’s up to us to discover it. It’s a decision that each one of us makes when we wake up in the morning as well as throughout our day. In fact throughout our lives. Situations and circumstances are changing all the time, but happiness is still our choice and it’s a choice that each of us has an opportunity of making.
INSIGHT
Many times what’s got people stuck and is holding them back from experiencing the fullness and deliciousness of life, is that they’re hung up about things not being perfect. Life is not perfect and what is keeping us from being happy and successful is our own mind. The same thing can happen to two different people and yet one gets rich and the other one stays poor – why is that?
ATTITUDE
Happiness is a choice, happiness is your own responsibility, it is something you create within you. Everything you need to be happy exists right now in your life. Everyday life supplies you with an abundance of opportunities to be happy if you will look for them.
ACTION
Here is a recipe for joy and happiness:
- Look for and see things that make you feel good like young children playing in the field, hearing the music of their laughter
- Look for reasons to laugh like watching comedies, watching the birds in your garden, their antics can be very funny
- Look for the beauty around you like in nature, the animals, looking up a the stars and night
- Find reasons to like and praise yourself and always remember that you too deserve to be loved and appreciated especially by you
- Look for opportunities to offer praise to others like your children, your spouse – remember that your happiness is the greatest gift you can give your family
- Acknowledge your absolute freedom to do any of these things or not to do them – for it is your freedom of choice in every moment of your day
WISE GUYS
- “Happiness is a choice – not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.” – Ralph Marston
- “Blaming is so much easier than taking responsibility, because if you take responsibility… then you might be to blame.” – Jennifer O’Neil
- “Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for everything that it is.” – Mandy Hale
